In this unit, students will be reading diverse, complex arguments. Students will use close reading techniques to analyze an argument by evaluating the claim(s), reasoning, and the quality of the evidence presented. Students will also produce a written argument that exemplifies all of the qualities of an effective argument.

Reading Information 7.6: Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how the author distinguishes his or her position from that of others.
Reading Information 7.8: Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claims.
Writing 7.8: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
